Vaasavi Jayanthi
April 25, 1999
Vaasavi Jayanthi is an ideal day for
worshipping Sri Indra, the king of the
Devas in the spiritual hierarchy.
Sri Indra has great power over the activities of humankind.
A soul gets elevated to the post of Indra as a result of the immense punniyam (good karma)
generated by innumerable good thoughts, words and deeds over countless lifetimes.
This position is extremely hard to achieve.
On Vaasavi Jayanthi day, one should gift objects normally associated with luxury and opulence to the poor.
Examples include high end clothes (preferably in white color), ornaments, cosmetic supplies, beauty products and
any product that is associated with beauty enhancement.
In short, gift all those little sundry items
that the poor would like to have but don't have the resources to buy for themselves.
This service to the poor propitiates Sri Indra who rewards us with material conveniences
in our lives like houses, vehicles and the like.
Even if we don't wish for material gains, we must follow this procedure as an act of selfless service for the less fortunate amongst us.
We should remember that it's such selfless service coupled with Guru Bakthi that can reveal the Lord of the Self.
