Make sure you perform Maalaya Paksham tharpanam rites everyday from Sep/26/99 to Oct/9/99. It's very important that we honor our ancestors (pithru beings) with daily tharpanam rites during this particular paksham.

While the Siddhas say that we should perform nitya (daily) tharpanam as part of our everyday schedule, this paksham is particularly important for these rites.

It's also important that we perform tharpanam rites for all those that are not in our ancestral lines too, for example, the thousands who perished recently in earthquakes in Turkey and Taiwan.

It's also our duty to perform tharpanam for animals, birds and other creatures. This is known as kaarunya tharpanam.

Of course, the fitting finalé for tharpanam rites is selfless service to the poor and the needy. Make sure you feed the poor and serve them in other ways too everyday during this paksham.

The Sep/99 and Oct/99 issues of Sri Agasthia Vijayam, the Ashram Tamil monthly, describe the special tharpanam rites that need to be performed on each day of this paksham. Please follow the instrutions that have been spelled out therein.

Om Salutations to the Pithru beings
