Ashta Prathaapa Giri Valam Days
Eight Special Days at Arunachala
Day 7 - Nov/23/99

The Siddhas have designed a special eight day giri valam worship procedure for this Pramaadhi year (mid April 1999 to mid April 2000). This is the Ashta Prathaapa Arunachala Giri Valam worship procedure. Nov/23/99 is the seventh day of this eight day period.

The Siddhas say that opportunities do not announce themselves. This is just as true in the spiritual world as it's in the material world. So if we don't want opportunities to pass us by, we must be vigilant.

Arunachala giri valam is one such opportunity. When you plan your first giri valam, many hurdles will seem to appear out of nowhere and you may feel like postponing your trip. But this is a play of maaya. Be vigilant, realize the workings of maaya, request Arunachala's grace and embark on Arunachala giri valam with single minded determination. Don't succumb to maaya and let the girivalam "opportunity" pass you by. Remember that with Arunachala's support, you can easily break through these maaya obstacles.

Not Me, Not Me, But You, O Lord!
Click here! But do not for a momemnt think that you can perform Arunachala giri valam at will. This quintessential spiritual exercise can not be accomplished by human planning and execution; it's a trip that must be approved by Lord Arunachala Himself. This is Arunachala's unseen immigration control! Unless He issues the spiritual visa, no one can set foot in the Arunachala punya boomi (holy land) let alone perform giri valam. Make no mistake about this. Surrender to Him and He'll make all things possible.

You may think that you're performing Arunachala giri valam of your own accord. But you don't know the spiritual workings behind your giri valam, say the Siddhas. Your pithrus, who are hard at work for your spiritual upliftment, pray for this event for years. Arunachala grants their request and it's only after this that you perform giri valam. Thus your giri valam is preordained. This is the statement of the Siddhas.

We do not perform giri valam of our own accord. It's a gift from our pithrus. It's an opportunity presented to us by our pithru beings. Our giri valam is only a terrestrial realization of our pithrus' celestial plan! So we must make use of it without letting it pass us by.

Thanks to Our Pithrus
Click here! Thus our pithrus bless us with many many spiritual opportunities, the greatest of them being Arunachala giri valam which can bless us with unimaginable spiritual powers.

Some plan their giri valam for years while some others just travel with their friends at a moment's notice and perform their giri valam. This is Arunachala's magic. We can not specify how and when we'll do giri valam. If we surrender to the merciful Lord Arunachala, He'll take care of all the details. That's the only way.

Why are the pithrus so keen that we perform giri valam? Because there's no spiritual practice that can destroy karma as effectively as Arunachala giri valam. Hence our pithrus pray to Arunachala for permission for us to do giri valam. They arrange for us getting the unseen spiritual visa to set foot on the Arunachala holy land. These are spiritual realities which we can not know about unless the Siddhas reveal them to us.

Nov/23/99 is the very important Karthigai Deepa giri valam day of the of the Pramaadhi year.

Nov/23/99 - Karthigai Deepam Day!
Click here! Before embarking on your giri valam on this day, perform abishekam for a Siva Lingam deity (any Siva Lingam) with milk from a cow that's still with her calf. It's a Siddha stipulation that only milk from a cow that's with her calf can be used for abishekam. Milk from cows who are not with their calves or whose calves have died is not fit for abishekam; it can only be used to feed punya vriksham (sacred trees). Start your giri valam only after performing abishekam as mentioned above.

What's the result of giri valam on Pramaadhi Karthigai deepam day? A prosperous life filled with happiness and contentment; a life led in perfect harmony with family, relatives and friends.

On this very special day, perform giri valam with your spouse, children and relatives.

Whatever the discord betwen husband and wife, giri valam on this day will infuse harmony in their relationship.

Perform a minimum of two giri valams on this day with your family and relatives.

Sanga Baalaka Siddhas
Click here! During the Pramaadhi year, a group of Siddhas known as the Sanga Baalaka Siddhas perfrom daily giri valam from the day the flag is unfurled in the Arunachala temple to the day the deepa jothi at the peak of the Arunachala Hill is cooled down. These great Siddha beings take the soot from the deepa jothi smoke and create a paste and offer it to the Valam Sanguthri spiritual moolika herb in accordance with ancient Siddha procedures. It's in the presence of this moolika herb that Sri Agasthiar remains seated in the Palaasa Bagula Tantra Yoga posture and imparts the knowledge of the Ashta Maa Siddhi powers to His Siddha disciples as described elsewhere in this issue of AUMzine.

Performing girivalam during this period will be counted as doing giri valam in the company of these great Siddhas. It's a great honor indeed. But these are Siddha secrets. Just perform giri valam during this period and some of their spiritual powers will rub off on you and uplift you.

Starting on Nov/23/99, perform 1000 Arunachala giri valams. Those who do this will not miss out on any spiritual opportunities. This is Arunachala's blessing as communicated to us by the Siddhas.
