The First Vishnupathi of the Vikrama Year - May/14/2ØØØ
The First Vishnupathi auspicious time period of the
Vikrama year occurs on
May/14/2ØØØ. The ten hour period from 2 a.m. to 12 noon on this day
is of great spiritual importance. As we have pointed out elsewhere in AUMzine
(articles 1,
2,
3,
4),
spiritual aspirants can make great spiritual progress
by following specific worship procedures revealed by the Siddhas for this particular time period.
The Sathguru, Guru Mangala Gandharva Venkataraman, has been revealing these Siddha procedures
for many years now.
The Vishnupathi auspicious time period marks that time in a different era during which
Lord Narayana performed miracles for the sake of His devotees. In this article, we'll
describe the Siddha worship procedures for
May/14/2ØØØ.
The Lords of Honor
The Lords of Honor during the first Vishnupathi of the Vikrama year are
the five Varada (boon givers) deities of the Vaikunta Perumal temple
in Uttiramerur, a town 30 km southwest of Kanchipuram and 18 km southeast
of Chengalpet. Worshipping these five lords of honor is the appropriate
Siddha procedure for the first Vishnupathi of the Vikrama year.
Of these five Lords, Sri Sundara Varada graces us in the standing posture,
Sri Vaikunta Perumal in the seated posture and Sri Ranganatha Varada in the
reclining posture.
The Siddhas say that the five Pandava princes performed this worship
procedure in a different era.
Each of the Pandava princes chose one of these
deities for their personal worship, the Siddhas inform us.
Along with them, the princess Sri Draupadi worshipped the Lords
and the Universal Mother Sri Loka Nayaki.
Pushpa Pooja - Worship with Flowers
Of the many different kinds of worship procedures known to us,
Pushpa pooja, worship with flowers, is an important one.
There are specific Pushpa pooja procedures that are important
in this Vikrama year.
These worship procedures have the power to neutralize
severe bad karma and offer spiritual solutions to many
of our material problems, in particular problems related
to married life.
Sri Draupadi, the noble Pandava princess, spent time thinking about the
problems in married life and the pain felt by estranged and seperated couples.
She decided that she should find a solution that could strengthen marriages,
a solution that would be useful to all of
humanity, a solution that could be used by us to this day. But finding
such a far reaching solution is not easy, is it?
She decided that only the great Lord Sri Krishna can offer such a potent
solution to such an important problem.
She prayed to Him with deep sincerity. Sri Krishna appeared
before her and suggested that she should offer Pushpa pooja to the Lord,
but stopped short of saying which flower to use.
Sri Draupadi had made some headway, but still had to figure out which
flower to use in her Pushpa pooja. She decided to consult Bhima, the
mighty Pandava prince, the doer of great deeds. Bhima listened to
Draupadi's story and appreciated the selfless request of the princess.
But he also understood the task at hand and went into deep meditation to come up with a strategy.
In his meditiation, he received the inspiration to offer Pushpa pooja with
many different varieties of fragrant flowers to Lord Sri Sundara
Varada of Uttiramerur for a period of 48 days (one mandalam).
As a result of this worship, a strategy seemed to present itself.
With deep gratitude, Bhima thanked Lord Sri Sundara Varada and embarked on
the solution which presented itself as a result of his mandala pooja.
In his mind's eye, he saw a way that he should proceed on and this ability
dawned in him because of his sincere worship of Lord Sri Sundara Varada.
Not I, But You, O Lord!
Bhima passed through many jungles on the way that he saw
in his mind's eye. As he was passing through a certain jungle,
he saw an old monkey lying right in the middle of the path.
The might prince asked the monkey to step aside, but it seemed
too old to respond. Bhima decided that if the monkey wouldn't
heed the request of a mighty prince, he could very well use his
might to get what he wanted. He figured that he would just toss
the monkey aside and go on his way. But try as he might, he couldn't
even budge the monkey's tail an inch! He huffed and he puffed, but
to no avail. He shouted, he screamed, once again to no avail.
The humbled prince had to accept defeat.
It became quite clear to Bhima that this was no ordinary monkey.
He thought of the mission he was on and he prayed to Lord Sri Sundara Varada
for help. Presently the monkey assumed the form of the great Hanuman and
spoke to him: Bhima, This is the Lord's play to make you understand that
you should rely on Him, not on your might alone.
Those who think that they can do anything with their might or intelligence
will be taught this lesson at one time or another. So all of us must understand
that everything happens by the power of God, not by our power.
I'm a son of Vaayu and so are you. Thus I'm your elder brother. The Lord asked me to enact this
drama for two purposes, one to teach you the lesson that you learnt just now and
secondly to teach you the procedure to get the flower that you are seeking.
The flower you seek is known as Saughandika. Only those who have meditated on
the Saughandika Pushpa mantra for an extended period of time can see it and
only those who are expert at the binding mantras and release mantras
for this flower can pluck it. The Lord has asked me to teach you these mantras.
Bhima thanked his great elder brother and meditated on the Saughandika mantras for an
extended period of time. Presently the Saughandika Pushpa Devata angel appeared
before him and showed him where he could find that flower. With the permission
of the angel, Bhima plucked the Saughandika flowers and carried them to Sri Draupadi.
Sri Draupadi was ecstatic at seeing her wish come true. She thanked Bhima, mentally
conveyed her gratitude to Lord Sri Krishna and said that this potent pooja procedure
would not have been realized without the grace of Lord Sri Sundara Varada. Thus these
flowers should first be offered to Him. The two of them went to Sri Sundara Varada's
shrine and offered these flowers to Him with great love and gratitude. The great Lord
was pleased by their loving worship, patience, perseverance and selflessness. He said that this
pooja procedure just now completed by Sri Draupadi and Bhima would be a potent cure
for the many problems that arise in married life. Sri Draupadi, overjoyed at
humanity having been granted this worship procedure, thanked the Lord profusely for
His kindness and with tears flowing from eyes, sang His praises to her heart's content.
The time period when Sri Draupadi worshipped Lord Sri Sundara Varada with
Saughandika flowers was the first Vishnupathi period of the Vikrama year in a
different era.
Why Bhima? Why Not Arjuna or Sahadeva?
How come Bhima was the chosen vehicle for figuring out the secret of Saughandika?
Why not Arjuna, the great warrior or Sahadeva, the great brain?
Only the Siddhas can explain the divine reasoning behind such issues.
The great Lord Sri Krishna was a good friend of the Pandavas.
He would visit them often and offer His sage advice to them on
many different topics. But whenever the subject of Pushpa pooja
came up, He would address the issue with Bhima. Whenever He
had some unique flowers with Him, He would give them to Bhima.
This didn't quite sit well with Arjuna, who felt that he was being left
out of these potent Pushpa pooja procedures.
One day Arjuna decided to confront Sri Krishna. He asked the great
Lord why He concentrated on Bhima all the time when the subject
of Pushpa pooja came up. Was he not good enough? Why was Krishna
diverting the powers of Pushpa pooja to Bhima alone? Wouldn't these
powers find a good home in Arjuna, the great warrior? Why was Krishna
being partial to Bhima? Was this fair? Arjuna reeled this list of
complaints which had been festering in his mind. He thought he could
do this because the great Lord Krishna was his friend.
Krishna, the great Master, listened to this impassioned torrent from
Arjuna. He remained quiet for while so that Arjuna would have some
time to cool down. Then He smiled the famous Krishna smile and
calmly addressed the warrior prince: "Arjuna, Do you think you
can equal Bhima's pooja? I don't think you can."
That was it! Arjuna's rage knew no bounds. What more does a
warrior need to hear than be told that he's not some one's equal.
Arjuna challenged that he could do anything that Bhima could.
Krishna calmed him down and said that he shouldn't take on
challenges willy nilly. But Arjuna just couldn't accept defeat
so easily and demanded that Krishna prove what He had said.
The great Lord agreed and said, "Alright. If that's what you wish,
come with me."
Maanasa Pooja - Worship in the Mind
Krishna took Arjuna on a celestial journey to a certain part of
Devaloka. In that place there was a Siva Lingam and on It was falling
an endless stream of flowers. But there was no one to be seen except
some citizens of Devaloka who were cleaning up this endless stream of
flowers being deposited on the Lord. Arjuna saw this magical sight and
asked Krishna what was going on. Krishna suggested that he ask the
Devaloka citizens themselves.
Arjuna did as he was told. The Devaloka citizens explained the
situation: "Whenever anyone does maanasa pooja with
flowers, that is, whenever any one mentally offers flowers to God,
these unmanifest flowers are given a manifest form in Devaloka
and are offered to this Siva Lingam. It's our job to collect these
flowers and clean up the shrine. For many years now, we have not had
even a moment's rest because this endless rain of flowers has not ceased.
We are tired!"
Arjuna was amazed. He wanted to know more. He asked them if this
rain of flowers was the result of the worship of many souls.
They said that while there are many souls in many different parts of the universe
who do maanasa pooja, this endless rain of flowers was primarily the work of
one human!
Arjuna's curiosity reached its limit. He begged them to tell him who this human
was? He had to know it! The citizens of Devaloka spoke: "It seems that there's
somebody known as Bhima. We're told that he's engaged in maanasa pooja
twenty four hours a day, irrespective of whatever activity he's engaged in.
He does this pooja even in his sleep. He constantly offers
flowers to the Lord in his mind. He doesn't stop and neither does this rain of
flowers. Unless he stops at least for a minute, we won't find a moment's rest."
Krishna looked at Arjuna, but Arjuna was ashamed at havinng challenged the Lord.
He understood what Krishna had told him about not being able to equal Bhima's pooja.
Thus Bhima was an adept at nonstop maanasa pooja. His mind was constantly
focussed on unceasing pushpa archana. It's because of this that Krishna would
make Bhima the centerpoint of those discussions centered on pushpa secrets.
And it's because of this constant mental pushpa pooja that Bhima was the chosen
instrument in the hands of Lord Sri Sundara Varada for revealing the Saughandhika
Pushpa Pooja procedures for solving problems in married life.
First Vikrama Vishnupathi Worship Procedures
The Siddha worship procedures for the first Vishnupathi of the Vikrama year
are centered around the five Varada deities of the Vaikunta Perumal
temple of Uttiramerur.
Perform abishekam for these five Lords using the
water from the temple pond.
Perform pithru tharpanam and pithru homam
during this time period.
Perform pushpa archana with many different
kinds of fragrant flowers; make sure there are at least five different
kinds of flowers. All flowers offered to the Lord must be fragrant.
Flowers which are not fragrant MUST NOT be offered in worship. This is
a Siddha rule.
Offer five different kinds of rice dishes
to these five Lords and distribute the same to the poor and the needy.
Recite mantras in your mind, that is without any lip movement,
in honor of Bhima's maanasa pooja. This maanasa mantra japam
is very potent indeed, say the Siddhas.
1. During the Vishnupathi time period, bring a cow to the Vaikunta
Permual temple, get fresh milk from the cow and immediately perform
abishekam with this milk (before the natural heat is lost) for Lord Sri Sundara Varada.
Offer milk paayasam and distribute the same to the poor. This will unite families
which have been estranged as a result of inheritance related problems and misunderstandings.
2. Apply a coat of sandalwood paste to Sri Achutha Varada, worship Him with
sampangi flowers and offer five different kinds of rice dishes as
neivedyam. This is a solution for those who have lost money, those who
are not able to get their loans back and those who are not able to get their
rightful share of their inheritance. They should do this with deep faith
over an extended period of time.
3. Worship Sri Anurudra Varada with red colored fragrant flowers and offer
sweet pongal as neivedyam. Those who do this over an extended
period of time will find solutions for skin diseases, especially leprosy.
4. Worship Sri Lakshmi Varaha with dishes made of roots and tubers and
distribute the same to the poor. This is a solution for money problems,
never ending court cases, construction that's bogged down because of
misunderstandings with partners, firends and relatives.
Worship Sri Kalyana Varada with at least five different kinds of flowers that are that
not that easy to find during the Vishnupathi time period, on Wednesdays and Fridays and
during Thiruvonam nakshatram days. This is a solution for unemployment problems and
for marriages which get arranged but never seem to happen.
5. On Ekadasi and Dvaadasi thithi days and on Anusham nakshatram days, apply a coat
of butter on Sri Vaikunta Perumal's divine form and offer the white pongal dish
as neivedyam. This is a solution for those who have been cheated out of their wealth
or position. But they should follow this procedure with faith over an extended period of time.
What about those who just can't seem to keep their jobs, those who can't seem to find
jobs at all, those who aimlessly go here and there without any peace of mind and those
who suffer from bone joint related problems like arthritis? They should worship Sri Vaikunta Perumal
by coating His divine form with a sacred oil mix made from ponaanganni, karisalaankanni, marudhaani
moolika herbs, oil extracted from hibiscus flowers and coconut oil.
Those who seek a good job that will last a long time should offer rice dishes made
mixed with vegetables like snake gourd and different kinds of greens on a
five foot banana leaf as neivedyam and then offer the same to the poor.
They should follow this worship procedure over an extended period of time with
deep faith.
What you find above are Siddha revelations on the worship procedures
for the first Vishnupathi of the Vikrama year as conveyed to us by the
Sathguru, Guru Mangala Gandharva Venkataraman.
These are simple yet powerful karma neutralization procedures.
Those who follow the advice of the Siddhas will certainly reap the benefits, both material
and spiritual. Let's follow their advice, neutralize our karma and have ourselves uplifted towards the Divine!
