Things to do in 2ØØ1 and Vrisha varusham
The Siddhas have prescribed specific duties that we must discharge during
2ØØ1 and the Vrisha varusham (year).
These duties have been communicated to us by the Sathguru, Guru Mangala Gandharva Venkataraman.
This article is based on information found in the January
2ØØ1 and April
2ØØ1 issues of Sri Agasthia Vijayam, the Ashram monthly magazine.
Not all of the pertinent content from those two issues have been covered here.
More information will be presented here shortly.

Recite the Vinayka Kavacham hymn a minimum of 21 times a day during
2ØØ1.
Reciting this sloka while performing giri valam around Arunachala or other sacred hills will
lead to the resolution of seemingly never ending problems both at home and at the office.
2ØØ1 is an ideal year for vastra dhaanam (gifting clothes to the poor).
Perform vastra pooja (clothing the divine form) for Ganesh every Monday during this year.
Carry the cloth meant for this purpose on your head during giri valam and then use it to
clothe the many Ganesh forms that you
see on road sides, under trees and on the banks of lakes and rivers.
Perform this vastra pooja for atleast 365 Ganesh forms during 2ØØ1.
This will resolve never ending litigation and court cases.
It will also resolve long standing problems with siblings.
You must have darshan of at least nine gopura kalasams (the foot or so long metal object that
caps a temple tower) every morning. If you see a temple tower that has only five gopura kalasams, then
visit another that has four or more. In other words, you should have darshan of enough temple towers so that you have
had darshan of at least nine kalasams each morning.
This is expiation for being lax on the job.
One must do the work that one gets paid for. Not doing so will result in getting cheated out of our money.
We must perform this kalasa darshan pooja every morning and then be diligent at the work place.
The Siddhas say that there will be vehicle related problems during
2ØØ1.
There will be accidents and vehicle failures. There'll be other problems due to transportation not being arriving on time.
We should perform dhaanam (gifting) of sacred river water (e.g., Ganga water, Kaveri water, etc.) every week during
2ØØ1.
Store this water in clean vessels. Use it for cooking purposes and then give the food to the poor as annadhaanam.
Be careful about giving or getting loans during 2ØØ1.
If you get a loan, keep your word regarding payments.
The Siddhas require us to be truthful to our word.
It's best to live a simple and frugal life during 2ØØ1.
Apart from basic spending on food, clothing and shelter, all other
expenditures should be focussed on dhaanam (gifting and selfless service to the poor) and pooja (worship).
It's okay to buy new clothes for spiritual occasions like Deepavali and Pongal
during 2ØØ1, but not otherwise.
There are no restrictions on dhaanam and pooja related expenditures.
