Sri Agasthiar Siddha Insights for Viya Year, April 2006 - April 2007

The clock keeps ticking and man's life ebbs away. The ticking clock constantly reminds us that time is of the essence in our march towards God. The Siddhas tell us that time is more valuable than gold; they instruct us to pay careful attention to the passage of time and to the different observances that spiritual aspirants should put into practice at different time periods. This is of utmost importance.

Every varusham (year), yuga, manvantara, kalpa has its own features. The unique Siddha insights into the features of the current Viya year (April 2006 - April 2007) have been conveyed to us by the Sathguru, Guru Mangala Gandharva Venkataraman, as taught to him by his divine teacher, Sri La Sri Idiyaapa Siddha Eesa. Aspirants should follow the Siddha advice that has been described here and in the April 2006 issue of Sri Agasthia Vijayam, the Ashram monthly magazine.

In a nutshell, the ideal worship for the Viya year is the worship of Mother Sri Varahi Devi. There will be an increase of spirituality in this Viya year. People should be aware that they may get conned this year. So they should be extra careful. They should offer daily worship to Mother Varahi Devi.

In this Viya year, there will be problems due to wrong speech - harsh speech, harmful speech, lies, back biting, promises made but not kept and so on. To protect oneself from the evil effects of wrong speech, one should practice a vow of silence (mouna vratam) on Mondays and group sahasrama pooja on Sapthami thithi days.

There will be problems caused by words spoken in anger. People will get conned both in family and work environments due to their carelessness and lack of attention to detail. To protect oneself, the Siddhas advice us to worship Pechiammai of Thiruvasi, Yazhinum Memmozhiyal of Vedaranyam, Satyavalli, Satyagiriswarar of Sakthimutram.

To be able to take right decisions, one should get moondram pirai darshan (darshan of the third phase moon) throughout this Viya year and also worship Lord Chandrasekhara, Chandramouli, Somnath, Someswara and Satyagiriswara offering milk payasam as neivedyam. This same worship should also be offered at the Manamadurai and Uttamapalaiyam temples.

Sri Varahi Devi, Sundararaja Temple, Swamimalai

Merchants should be careful this year. If they don't want to get conned by anyone, they should light lamp jyotis and do atma pradakshinam three times daily. They should offer worship in temples that have a lot of pillars. Offering worship at the temples in Kanchipuram, Lalgudi, Thinnakonam will give one a strong will, strong mind and strong vairagya.

Those whose jobs depend on others should offer the following worship daily through out this Viya year. They should do archana of Lord Bikshadana Siva with the following mantra: Om Bilavanga Vyapulamaasraya Beejalaya Sri Bikshadana Moorthiye Potri. They should do this 108 times using 21 vilva leaves. The same 21 leaves can be used 108 times. Those who can afford can also use vilva leaves made of silver and gold.

Worshipping Sri Pathaleeswara of Varthalai (near Trichy) is a good protection against getting conned by others.

In this Viya year, there will be an increase in spirituality. This is because the eldest pithru ancestral beings of each family will be visiting temples like Nedungudi, Kuruvi Rameswaram, Poovalur, Kasi in both human and cow forms. This arrival of pithru beings will cause an increase in spirituality this year. Even animals and birds will offer worship in this Viya year.

Offering worship to Annapoorani, Annalingeswara and at Thiruvasi this Viya year will be of great benefit to devotees.

In this year, youngsters may not show much love within the family. There may be problems in family environments also. The only solution is group pooja in every family unit. Parents and children should offer worship together daily as a family unit. There is another thing to keep in mind this Viya year. Young ones should keep in mind that they need to get the approval of their elders before they get married. This is very important this Viya year. Young boys and girls who don't want to get taken advantage of should offer worship to Mother Sri Varahi Devi every Tuesday with 18 lamp jyotis.

A couple to be wedded should not be made to sit together as a couple in any social function or religious ceremony before the wedding. It is only after the wedding ceremony has been completed that the couple gain the right to be presented together as a couple according to the Siddhas.

The support of God is the only true support. But there will be attempts at using the power of gangs, position, money to control one. To protect against such misuse of power, one should recite Bhairava Ashtakam many times everyday. Those who have to work in situations fraught with such negative, evil forces should offer worship at a Kala Bhairava shrine everyday. They should also take part in the Bhairava pooja that happens at temple shutdown time, particularly on Krishna Paksha Ashtami nights.

People will get conned in the purchase and sale of land, apartments, flats and buildings this Viya year. This is because Mother Bhoomadevi (Earth) is not being properly propitiated by humans. Also the misuse of agni (fire) through cigarettes and tobacco is a major spiritual problem. Devotees should offer worship on Tuesdays and on Vaastu days at Kaduveli Akasapuriswara temple, Sevalur Bhoomiswara temple and Kadiyaptti Bhoomiswara temple (near Thirupattur). This is especially important for builders, building contractors and those in the construction business.

In this Viya year, husbands and wives desiring a happy family life should worship Mother Sukra Vara Amman every Friday.

Teachers and those working in the education industry may face some problems. The Siddhas advise them to stay put wherever they are serving and not look for promotions or a job change elswhere, unless it involves a reunification of a family.

The Siddhas tell us that we should reduce our cell phone and telephone usage. Figure out the Navagraha lord for your telephone number, chant the mantra for that Lord and then only speak into the phone.

Merchants and businessmen should offer worship to Kubera and Lakshmi at Chidambaram, Uttamapalaiyam (near Theni) and Mallanampatti (Dindigul - Nilakkottai).

It is a great sin to introduce someone to the alcohol habit. Those who do this will have to suffer this bad karma for generations. In this year, some will have a tendency to embrace the liquor habit. To protect oneself from the clutches of alcohol, one should perfrom Arunachala Girivalam every Tuesday, worship Mother Varahi Devi of Swamimalai every Tuesday and Cholapuram Bhairaveswara on every Ashtami thithi.

The Viya year is a year of punishments. To protect oneself, worship Mother Sri Varahi Devi.

The ideal worship for the Viya year is the worship of Mother Sri Varahi Devi. Worship Her three times a day this year without fail. Visit the Varahi shrines at Thanjavur Brahadeeswara temple and Sundararaja Perumal temple (very near the Swamimalai Muruga temple) and offer worship there. This is very important during this Viya year, say the Siddhas.
