Sri ChandraSekhara Durga, ChandraMouli Durga
The Sathguru, Guru Mangala Gandharva Venkataraman, has
taught us a special Mother Durga worship procedure that he learnt from
his divine teacher Siva Guru Mangala Gandharva, Sri La Sri
Idiyappa Siddha. This worship is known as Dwadasa Durga Upasana or
the worship of 12 Durga Devis.
Of these 12 Mother Durga manifestations, those born under Makara rasi (Capricorn)
(click here to find your rasi)
should offer special worship to Mother Sri ChandraSekhara Durga.
Sri ChandraSekhara Durga is also known as ChandraMouli Durga.
The manifestations of the Lord are infinite just like He is infinite.
He manifests Himself in various forms to support, protect, nourish and care for His devotees.
Once when Chandra prayed to Lord Shiva in desperation, the merciful Lord Siva manifested Himself and saved Chandra from extinction. In loving memory of this leela of the Lord, He is portrayed with a crescent moon on His forehead and is glorified with names like ChandraSekhara Shiva, ChandraMouli Siva, SomaSekhara Shiva, Somanatha Shiva, Someswara Siva and so on.
Sri ChandraSekhara Shiva protected not only Chandra but all the Devas too. He entered their minds which were under the numbing grip of the Asuras. The Asuras had rendered the Devas dull in mind and body, but the great Lord ChandraSekhara Shiva energized their minds with His Divine potency and gave them strength to discharge the sacred duties assigned to them.
Now in every one of these leelas where the Lord manifests Himself, the Mother prays to Him with love so that she can be united with the Lord. Thus there are an infinity of Mother manifestations as well. When the Lord manifested as ChandraSekhara, He blessed the Mother to manifest Her Divine Energy in the form of ChandraSekhara Durga and help His divine mission of energizing the Devas.
The specialty of Mother ChandraSekhara Durga is that she is Samashti Durga, the sum total of all Durga Devis. Seated on her lion vahana (vehicle), She sports a crescent moon on Her forehead too. The Durga Devi in every ChandraSekhara, Someswara, Somnath temple is an amsa of Mother ChandraSekhara Durga. If your rasi is Makaram (Capricorn), make it a point to worship Mother Chandrasekhara Durga. There are many temples where you can have Her darshan - Musiri, Thiruvakkarai, Manamadurai, Pazhaiyaarai near Kumbakonam, Chandrasekharapuram, Magimaalai near Thanjavur, Perumagaloor and others.
The worship of Mother ChandraSekhara Durga is very important for those who work with textiles, chemicals, book publishing, nuclear bombs, soil and fertilizers, sound engineering and acoustics, missiles, bombs and other destructive weapons and factories where a lot of noise is made. People involved in these occupations should pray to Chandrasekhara Durga requesting Her divine protection.
Note that positive energy cannot be used for destructive purposes like creating missiles and bombs. Further, those who work in the liquor industry and with products that can destroy families should resolve to seek employment in other industries. Why accumulate bad karma by working in the liquor industry or the cigarette industry? It is better to look for a different job. But those who have entered these industries unknowingly should worship Mother Chandrasekhara Durga with love and devotion and ask for Her mercy while resolving to look for employment in other industries.
The Sathguru advises us to use white cloth
that has a pattern of green flowers and green leaves in it in the alankar of Sri Chandrasekhara Durga.
We should offer javvadhu and manoranjitham flowers in archana to the Mother.
Offer sweet rice mixed with milk and sweet milk payasam as
neivedyam offering for Mother Chandrasekhara Durga.
9 more Durga Devis to be featured soon.
