Sri Agasthiar Shiva Gaja Samhara Moorthi - The Ego Annihilator and Soul Emancipator - The Worshippable Lord for the year 2007

Gaja = Elephant. Samhara = Slaying. Here Gaja stands for the "mad elephant" of one's ego and arrogance.

Thus, Shiva Gaja Samhara Moorthi = the divine slayer of ego and arrogance.

Once upon a time, a group of egotists cloaked in the garb of spirituality, thought it fit to aim their powers in the form of a mad elephant at the Lord Himself. The Lord tore this elephant apart, and in turn their arrogance too. This avatar of the Lord as the elephant slayer is what we honor as Sri Shiva Gaja Samhara Moorthi.

The original Agasthiar Ashram painting of Shiva Gaja Samhara Moorthi was made to the specifications of Sathguru Venkataraman. It was first released to the public on the cover of Sri Agasthia Vijayam, the Ashram monthly magazine, in January 2007. The prayer mantras for Shiva Gaja Samhara Moorthi for ego annihilation and soul emancipation were released to the public in the Ashram magazine in February 2007.

The "big I" problem in daily life
The worship of Shiva Gaja Samhara Moorthi is particularly important for those with an "ego problem." This is the "big I" problem, as the Sathguru refers to it! The "big I" can cause havoc both in work life and family life.

Wealth, position, titles, power, status, education, intelligence, beauty, strength, talent, achievements, string of successes inevitably lead to the mad dance of the "big I". This mad dance of the "big I" can cause a lot of problems both to oneself and to others!

Just think for a moment. How many opportunities are lost due to ego! How many relationships get strained because of ego! How many get oppressed because of ego and arrogance! How many hearts are wounded because of ego and arrogance!

To avert such problems in work and family life, pray to Shiva Gaja Samhara Moorthi and request Him to slay the "mad elephant" of ego and arrogance.

When the "big I" opposes God
Denying God, opposing God, speaking ill of God, thwarting spiritual efforts, claiming to be atheists and misusing scriptures are also manifestations of the "big I" at its peak.

Shiva Gaja Samhara Moorthi is the solution for such ego manifestations also.

The ugly "big I" on the spiritual path
On the spiritual path, the "big I" is the biggest hurdle. Even those who have conquered other vices find it hard to free themselves from the grip of the ego.

Many self proclaimed spiritualists are so proud of their textual knowledge and their spiritual "achievements" that they forget that without ego annihilation, there is no spiritual life. They know not that the true spiritualist has dissolved his pride - his "I" - at the lotus feet of Shiva Gaja Samhara Moorthi as taught by his or her Sathguru.

One can never predict when the "big I" will raise its ugly head. So all spiritual aspirants must make it a point to worship Sri Shiva Gaja Samhara Moorthi to save themselves from the snare of the ego on the spiritual path. The grace of Shiva Gaja Samhara Moorthi is essential for slaying the ego and making spiritual progress.

Slaying the ego
