Sri Virupaksheeswarar Temple - 4th of the 7 Saptha Sthaana Shiva Temples in Mylapore, Chennai
This temple is the abode of Sri Virupaksheeswarar and Mother Visalakshi.
While the commonly understood meaning of Virupaksha
is Virupa + Aksha, the Siddhas tell us that there is much more to the Lord's name than just that. They tell
us that the sacred land of this temple is the subtle divine factory where the jeeva shakti needed for the
survival of all beings is created.
We are constantly in motion. Even when out body is still, the mind is working overtime. The pangs of the
heart and mind are unceasing. This incessant movement create more karmas. What is the solution? Direct this
endless movement of your body, mind and heart towards God. How can you do this? Only with the blessings of
Sri Virupaksheeswara can you do this.
It is this union of body, mind and heart in God that the Virupakshi blossom shows us and hence Mother
Visalakshi in this temple wore a garland of Virupakshi flowers.
