Om. That the numeric year system - 2009 and so on - is used worldwide gives it a special significance.
Sathguru Venkataraman gave importance to this number based year system just like he gave importance to the traditional 60 year cycle (used in India) in which the years have distinct names like Sarvadhari, Prabhava, Vibhava and so on.
The 60 year cycle has its own significance since the number 60 has close connections to the shakti of Time.
It is not enough if just the number alone is used to indicate the year.
One must use both the number and the name of the year together.
It is this union of number shakti and name (akshara) shakti that gets one the full blessings of Kala Bhairava, said Sathguru Venkataraman. Thus saying Sarvadhari 2008-2009 is to be preferred.
Sathguru Venkataraman provided special Siddha insights for each new year. What you find in this article are the Siddha insights that he taught us for the year 2009.
In this age of computers, numbers fill every aspect of our lives. From date of birth to license number to social security number to examination number, numbers are everywhere. In this context, 2009 is a Theertha Akshara Number Shakti year.
Ghatatheertha Shakti Pooja Procedure
In the year 2009, we need to get the mineral shakti of gold, silver and copper through natural means into our body by doing Jala Yoga Pooja.
Throughout 2009, on the sixteen days from Pournami to Amavasya,
- before sunrise, place gold and navaratnas (nine gems) in a new earthen pot (ghata) and fill it with pure river water from the Ganga or Kaveri rivers.
- In the morning, noon and evening, chant Chandrasekara Ashtakam hymn, Gangashtakam hymn and Vallalar's songs on Rama.
- After the night's worship, boil the water in the pot and pour it through a filter in which Tulasi, Vilvam and Vanni leaves are kept.
- Collect the water in a small, white conch shell. Place 16 drops of this water in the palm of your hand and consume that.
This Ghata Theertha Shakti worship procedure is the Siddha way of acquiring special Theertha Shakti in 2009.
The leftover water can be cooled and then poured at the base of coconut trees.
Change the earthen pot every three days. Fill the used pot with rice, lentils, vegetables and fruits and give it away in charity.
Lord Shri Ram and the Installation of Ten Million Shiva Lingas
Sathguru Venkataraman taught us the Siddha secret that Lord Shri Ram successfully fulfilled his vow to install 10 million Shiva Lingas during His time in the forest.
He performed abhishekam to much more than 10 million Sivalingams during His avatar period.
So the worship of Lord Sri Rama is very important in any theertha pooja worship, taught Sathguru Venkataraman. Since 2009 is a theertha shakti year, the worship of Lord Shri Ram during our theertha puja takes on added significance in 2009.
11 Deities on 48 Days in 2009
Throughout 2009, on dates 1, 10, 19 and 28 of every month, do abhishekam to the eleven Ekadasa Rudras, to 11 Shiva Lingas and to 11 deities in sacred spots like Rameswaram and Thiru Mangalakudi using 10 different kinds of liquids such as cow's milk, pure, natural water from wells, rivers or springs, coconut water, water from the palm fruit, fruit juices, water in which the nava dhaanyas have been placed and so on. This special pooja on these 48 days in 2009 is a great service to humanity on the whole.
2009 is a Chandra Netra Shakti year
Sathguru Venkataraman taught us that the year 2009 is a Chandra Netra Shakti year.
In 2009, We must pay special attention to Chandra Shakti
in our mental and in our physical worship procedures
and also in the ramifications of mental processes.
It is not 2 alone that is a Chandra Shakti number.
Sathguru Venkataraman pointed out that 16 should also be considered a Chandra Shakti number.
Thus both these numbers are important in 2009.
The Number 16 and 2009
The Mystic Kusa Number in 2009
The mystic connection of 2 with 16 through the number 8 is reinforced by
the mystic Kusa number revealed some years ago by Sathguru Venkataraman. This mystic Kusa number is very relevant this year since it is this Kusa number that expands in fours and compacts itself in twos as taught by Sathguru Venkataraman.
Even in puja worship procedures, the importance of 16 is seen in the shodasa or sixteen kinds of worship offerered to the deity.
The Power of Multiplication Tables!
An offshoot of this subtle connection between 2 and 16 is the well known mind-shakti practice of memorizing multiplication tables from 2 to 16. This practice, while seemingly mechanical, is much more than that. It has much significance in the treatment of the mind by the Siddhas. Sathguru Venkataraman taught us that those who memorize this well and maintain this skill throughout their lives will lay a good mind-shakti and number-shakti foundation for themselves.
The shakti thus developed will help them face problems in life without losing heart. How so? Sathguru Venkataraman explained that there is a deep connection between numbers and thoughts. When the mind is filled with this kind of number shakti that is regularly kept sharp, this shakti acts as a barrier against the kind of depressing thoughts that make one lose heart in the face of problems.
Make Friends with the Numbers!
Sathguru Venkataraman taught us to make friends with the numbers! One should become so comfortable with numbers that thinking about various numbers should become second nature. We have mentioned these number shaktis often in our magazine and in our websites.
So the above mentioned mind exercise involving multiplication tables is especially important for numerologists. They should memorize multiplication tables upto 64. They should also do the 16 kinds of worship for Mother Sri Manonmani Devi on a regular basis. These practices will greatly help their numerological abilities, taught Sathguru Venkataraman.
Those who want to improve their chess skills should also try the mental exercise of memorizing tables upto 64.
It is good to get these number shaktis into oneself at an young age and keep them sharp from then onwards.
The 16 Chandra Spots in the Human Body
Even in the human body there are 16 spots of Chandra:
- the 9 orifices
- the spot on the top of the head towards the back where the hair seems to converge and diverge
- the throat
- the navel
- the "ajna chakra" spot between the eyebrows
- the two armpits
- the spot in the back in the spine.
These sixteen spots of Chandra take on increased significance in the lives of spiritual aspirants.
It is for this reason that 16 drops of oil are placed on the palm of the hand and these 16 Chandra spots are first massaged with oil and cleaned in the traditional "oil bath" procedure. It has deep spiritual significance in the Siddha way of life.
Chandra's 16 Theertha Puja
By the curse of Daksha, Chandra (Moon) suffered from the depletion of his 16 kalas.
As a solution he did puja in 16 kinds of theerthas with his 27 nakshatra devi wives.
Holding a lotus stalk in his hands, Chandra sat in the water and did pooja in the Kaanjaathu Malai Theertham Pond that is not exposed to either the sun's or the moon's rays. This pond is near Pudukottai - Ponamaravathi. The Kasi Dharbha grass here is very powerful. It should only be used there. It must not be taken elsewhere. This is a Siddha injunction.
Our 16 Theertha Puja in 2009
One of the important Siddha practices for 2009 is the ritual holy bath in 16 kinds of sacred waters such as:
- Rivers
- Lakes
- Ponds
- Ponds on hills
- Springs (where the water sorings upwards like Gowrikund on the way to Kedarnath)
- Sea water
- Water in river beds where you scoop the mud and out comes water
- Water in sea shores where you scoop the mud and out comes water (Tiruchendur Naazhi Kinaru well)
- Water that issues out of the mouth of a Nandi (Ramagiri)

- Water at the junction of three rivers
- Water that issues from the Gomukha in a temple
- Water that issues out of the melting of snow as streams on hills
- Water from rock beds on hills (Theni Malai and Thidiyan Malai near Madurai).
Thirumazhapadi - Special Theertha Shakti Sacred Spot for 2009
Near Thiruvaiyaru is the sacred spot known as Thirumazapadi.
Therein is the important temple of Lord Sri Vajrasthambeswara Shiva.
The Gomukha of the Lord's shrine in Thirumazabadi is adorned with four Nandis (see pic below).
This sacred spot can give one immense theertha sakthi blessings.
Doing 64 kinds of worship in the Thirumazhabadi temple will give the blessing of protection to one's family.
Those who suffer because of problems caused by anger and enmity should do 64 kinds of abishekams
to Lord Vajra Stambeswara Siva at Tirumazapadi and also offer the 16 shodasopachara puja worship. They should get
the abhisheka water that issues out of the 4 Nandi Gomuka here and consume that with deep devotion.
This worship done regularly will help them.

Chandra Shakti Temples and 2009 -
How to Purify the Heart, Intellect, Mind and Thoughts
Worship in Chandra Shakti Temples is important in 2009.
Chandra is manas karaka - the controller of the mind.
How can one purify the heart, intellect, mind and thoughts in this Kali Yuga?
We give you two of the important ways taught by the Arunachala Siddha, Sathguru Venkataraman.
- Do girivalam (circling the hill) of the Mallikarjuna Temple in Peraiyur (near Madurai - Kallupatti) regularly. This is a number-shakti temple.
- worship Mother Sri Manonmani Devi (Kookoor near Kumbakonam and Uttiramerur near Chennai - Chengalpattu) regularly.
So these are some of the Siddha revelations of the Sathguru, Guru Mangala Gandharva Venkataraman, for the year 2009.
We want you, yours and the whole world to enjoy the benefits of following the advice of the Siddhas of the Agasthiar Lineage.
