Arunachala

Here are some of the Siddha insights on the Karthigai Deepam Festival of the Virodhi Year of 2009. These were given to the world in the November 2009 and December 2009 issues of Sathguru Venkataraman's monthly magazine.

Arunachala, Deities and the Glory of the Karthigai Deepam Festival

The Light of Arunachala is the sum total of the divine effulgence of all deities.

The Light of Arunachala - the Arunachala Jothi - is Parabrahma Jothi, the radiance of the Absolute.

The Light of Arunachala - the Arunachala Deepam Flame - is Atma Jothi, the radiance of the atma (soul).

The universe itself is the Virat Swaroopa (the Universal Form) of God as the Formless Absolute. But this Formless Absolute takes the form of numerous deities and thus simplifies our approach to the Divine. This worship of the formless in deity form and reaching God thereby is known as Saguna Upasana. This Saguna Upasana is the easy way of reaching God in this Kali Yuga, the current age.

Since Arunachala represents the sum total of all deities and the Karthigai Deepam represents the ultimate form of divine grace, it should be no surprise that the Karthigai Deepam festival is officiated by deities, Siddhas, Maharishis and Devas. This Siddha secret remains unseen to the human eye but is given to the world so that humans everywhere can meditate on it and marvel at the glory of Arunachala's Karthikai Deepam.

In 2009, eleven deities will oversee the Karthigai Deepam Festival in Arunachala. These are the 11 Ekadasa Shymala Kanthi Deities - special deity forms of Ganesh, Muruga, Rudra, Vishnu, Brahma, Bhairava and the Pancha Maha Devis (Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Radha and Savitri). More on these 11 deities below.

The Ideal we should aim for in everyday life

May every breath, every word and every action be such that they please the Divine! This is the ideal everyone of us should aim for in our daily lives. This should be our only aim, our only goal and our only purpose - not just ours, but of all of society and humankind.

It is the pursuit of this ideal that blossoms in the garden of one's heart as bhakti devotion and love.

The purest of these pure blossoms is that of Mother Sri Radha's love that bloomed in the fertile garden of Her Krishna Thought.

RADHA - The First and Foremost Shyamala Jothi

For true love to take root in our hearts in this Kali Yuga (this age of falsehood), the singing of Mother Radha's name and the chanting of Her special beejaksharas embedded in Her mantra are very important especially during the Arunachala Karthigai Deepam Festival, the Pournami Full Moon Day of the Karthigai month of the Virodhi Year being Mother Radha's avatar day.

In Lord Sri Krishna's daily Siva Linga pooja, the Arunachala Jothi is the main lamp deepa jyothi that glows as Krishna Prakasa. Keep in mind the Krishna Venugopala shrine in the Arunachala Temple which is a daily worship shrine of Mother Radha and is of great significance to the Siddhas.

As we said before, the sum total of the effulgence of all deities is the Arunachala Jyoti - the Light of Arunachala. In the Arunachala Jothi, the matchless, pure splendor of Mother Radha's true love shines forth as the First and Foremost Shyamala Jothi of the universe. The Syamala Kanthi in the Arunachala Jyoti is the beautifully serene, effulgent glow of Mother Radha's pure love for Lord Krishna.

Radha Krishna

Honoring the Shyamala Kanthi of RADHA in the Arunachala Jyoti

In honor of this Shyamala Kanti of Mother Radha in the Arunachala Jothi, light a minimum of 11 jyoti lamps - Ekadasa Shyamala Kanthi Deepa Jothi lamps - everyday during each of the 11 days of the 2009 Karthigai Deepam Festival.

With these lamps as divine witnesses, sing the name of Mother Radha with family and friends and chant Her Siddha mantra (given below). This very act is selfless service to home, society and the world at large since it will help pure love blossom in human hearts.

The Vancha Chintamani Siddha Shyamala Kanthi Mantra of RADHA Krishna Divine Love in the Arunachala Jothi

A Secret of the Agasthiar Siddha Lineage

Kakathuva Sadhathuva Gothathuva kuralee
Medhathuva Bodhathuva Krishnathuva Radhey!"
This is also known as the Radhana Shyamala Kantini Deepa Jyoti Mantra.

The very special Vaanchaa Chinthamani Siddha beejaksharas of Mother Radha are embedded in the mantra given above. These beejaksharas themselves are not given explicitly, but they are embedded in this mantra and given in a semi-hidden form for this Kali Yuga. This is a secret of the Agasthiar Lineage that is being given to the world now to make it possible for pure love to blossom in at least a few beings. As mentioned before, chant this mantra with friends and family throughout the 2009 Karthigai Deepam Festival and thereafter.

Other Mantras for the 2009 Karthigai Deepam Festival

Along with the Shyamala kanthi mantra given above, also recite the Guru Gita mantras and the Thiruvadi Pugazchi and Guru Darisanam compositions of the great saint Ramalinga Vallalar daily during the 11 days of the 2009 Karthigai Deepam Festival. Furthermore, specific daily mantras have been given for these 11 days in the December issue of Sathguru Venkataraman's monthly magazine. Chant these mantras both at home and during your Arunachala Girivalam on these days.

The True Guru and Arunachala

Like Sathguru Venkataraman used to say, the wheel of spirituality revolves around the axis called Guru. Being with the True Guru, thinking of the True Guru, seeing the True Guru and talking with the True Guru lead to spiritual progress.

To reach such a True Guru and to realize that such a One is a walking, talking Shiva is made possible by Arunachala alone. Why? Because, the primordial teacher manifestation of Lord Shiva as Dakshinamoorthi is physically present in Arunachala. As we have said elsewhere, it is from this primordial teacher that the great Chaturdasa Gnana Booshana Dakshinamoorthi avatar of Thidiyan Malai emerged.

GURU GITA and Arunachala

For the Guru shakti to fill the 72000 subtle nadi channels in one's body, one has to engage in numerous spiritual practices. But all of these are simplified and unified in Arunachala. Thus the close connection between Arunachala and the True Guru and getting wisdom from the True Guru.

It was during the 11 days of the Karthigai Deepam Festival of a different era that Lord Siva acceded to Mother Parvati Devi's reuqest and taught Her the most pristine wisdom regarding the significance and glory of the True Guru. These teachings make up the sacred Guru Gita work within the Skanda Purana epic.

Arunachala

11 Ekadasa Guru Mangala Shaktis and 11 Days of the 2009 Karthigai Deepam Festival

Embedded in the Guru Gita sacred work are many Guru Tatvas (principles or foundational elements), but to start with, one must learn 11 Guru principles.

To digest these 11 principles, worship at the Saaliyamangalam Temple (on the Thanjavur - Ammapettai route) is of great help since this sacred space is full of these 11 Ekadasa Guru Mangala Shaktis.

Each one of these 11 Guru Gita principles and their shaktis is associated with one of the 11 days of the 2009 Karthigai Deepam Festival in Arunachala.

In what follows, we give the Siddha insights into each of these 11 foundational Guru elements and their connection with Arunachala and the Karthigai Deepam Festival as taught to us by Sathguru Venkataraman.

Day 1: November 22, 2009
Guru Tatva 1: GURU'S GAZE

"This world is of action. But action has a cause. And all causes have a root cause. That root cause is the Guru. Sathguru Venkataraman Let us worship this original cause - the Guru. This worship (of the Guru's Gaze) leads to that salvation resulting from the perfection of gnana (wisdom)." - from the Guru Gita taught by Lord Shiva to Mother Parvathi Devi.

Every moment spent thinking of Arunachala is a moment spent in the mukti (salvation) state. To be immersed in the Arunachala thought is to be immersed in the mukti state.

Thus it follows that not being able to think of Arunachala is not being interested in mukti and this is the sad fact of life in the Kali Yuga.

Why is this so? It is because of bad karma. Only when one's bad karma decreases is one able to think of Arunachala.

And how does one's bad karma get reduced? It gets reduced through the True Guru who shows the way to get rid of bad karma and the path to mukti (salvation). Thus Arunachala, Mukti, Guru and the Karma Neutralization process are all closely connected.

Arunachala

That which does not have the Guru's Gaze will not last. It will get destroyed for sure.

Darshan of God is possible only if the Guru has shown the way.

To get the Guru's Gaze (and thus the Guru's Grace) quickly, one should (1) have unshakeable faith in the Guru (2) respect saints and (3) perform good deeds. But without even one of these, no deity will even come close to one's house, let alone be present there.

This first day of the Karthigai Deepam Festival in Arunachala is the day when the sacred flag is raised on the dhwaja sthambha (flag pole) in front of the Lord's shrine.

This hoisting of the flag reminds us that just like the umbilical cord gave us life, the Guru's Gaze gives us spiritual life. It is to drive home this point that in days of yore kids spent their early life in Guru Kula Vaasam (life with the True Guru).

The raising of the flag is done with Lord Nandi as the leader. This is why there is a Nandi deity at the top of the dhwaja stamba and the little bells that are also there at the top are referred to as "Guru mani" (the Guru bells).

An important hymn in this connection is the "Kodi vanakka thuthi composed by the great saint Umapati Sivachariar. Once upon a time, the sacred temple flag could not be hoisted in the great Chidambarama Nataraja Temple. When all attempts came to naught, the saint composed and sang this hymn and humbly prayed to the Lord. After this, the flag was hoisted easily. Daily chanting of this hymn bestows one with good character and good memory. So teach this to kids.

Constantly remind yourself that to think of Arunachala is to be in the mukti state. May every thought, word and deed be connected with Arunachala. If you can't do that, at least keep saying, "To think of Arunachala is to be in the mukti state" and one day your thoughts, words and deeds will be filled with Arunachala.

Guru Seva (service) leads to the Guru's Gaze. Arunachala Girivalam on this day will help one get the Guru's Gaze. On this day, start your girivalam at the kodi maram (flag pole) inside the Arunachaleswarar Temple.

The Siddha Paribhasa mantra chant for this day that reminds one of the great Chaturdasa Gnana Booshana Dakshinamoorthi's avatar in Arunachala and his departure to Thidiyan Malai is as follows:

"kodi kandu suvai vindu thudi kondu
vidivaakkum kallaalak karuthuraiyaak kadavulaam
padi kondu adi vaithu mudiyaadhu
pudithandum odivaarach chenchadaiyey gnanamaam."

Day 2: November 23, 2009
Guru Tatva 2: GURU'S FORM

"In the middle of the Guru, is the universe. In the middle of the universe is the Guru. This is the Guru's true form. The pure form of dharma (righteousness) is Guru. Being with the Guru till the end without a break is true tapasya. I say with certainty: There is nothing greater than the Guru and there can be nothing greater than the Guru." - from the Guru Gita taught by Lord Siva to Mother Parvati Devi.

The Guru is Formless, but assumes numerous forms to guide humanity towards the divine. The perfect symbolization of this is the physical presence of the primordial teacher of the universe, Lord Sri Dakshinamoorthy Shiva, in Arunachala seated under a banyan tree in the Arunachala Hill. This is unique to Arunachala and thus the unmatched Guru Shakti of Arunachala.

The True Guru is the divine flower that is eternally in full bloom. It never wilts. All the True Gurus of the world are divine flowers that blossomed in Arunachala. Arunachala is the original source of all the True Gurus in this world.

Arunachala is Brahma Shiva. Arunachala is Vishnu Shiva. Arunachala is Parama Shiva. Arunachala is Shakti Shiva. Sathguru Venkataraman During Arunachala Girivalam, one can get billions of darshans, one can see billions of Shiva Nataraja Dance Forms, billions of deity forms and billions of Sathguru forms. Thus one Arunachala Girivalam bestows upon you the benefits of getting the darshan of numerous deities, Siddhas, Rishis and Sathgurus. It is for this reason that Sathguru Venkataraman said that Arunachala Girivalam is the greatest spiritual practice known to man since no other spiritual practice can yield this much benefits in such a short time (3 to 4 hours). Furthermore, Arunachala Girivalam is a spiritual practice that even the uneducated can follow easily. This is of course as it should be since the Lord would want to make the most potent spiritual practice accessible to one and all.

When done with their seva, every Siddha deposits the shakti of his tapasya in one of the Arunachala Darshans and merges with the Lord in that darshan. They appear again by divine command and the cycle continues. Thus every Arunachala darshan gets you the blessings of the Siddha who merged with the Lord in that darshan since the Siddha has left his tapasya shakti in that spot for the benefit of Girivalam pilgrims. This is the reason Sathguru Venkataraman asked us to look at the peak of the Arunachala Hill with every step. These Siddha blessings reach not just you, but your ancestors too. They have the power to spiritually uplift many generations of your family.

Without the Guru's Gaze, no one can get any blessings in Arunachala. There is a Guru for every being. The treasure that everyone should seek and get is the True Guru - it is Arunachala who makes this realization dawn in us. On this day, the form of your True Guru can be seen in the Arunachala Hill. Save and store this Guru Form in you.

The Siddha Paribhasa mantra chant for this day is as follows:

"piditha thondrena bedhamai kollaadhu
pidiyaadha varamodhum perugnana chudaraali
vaditha soredhuvo varam pootha paaredhuvo
guraguravap padhandhaaney koor."

Day 3: November 24, 2009
Guru Tatva 3: GURU'S NAME

"Hey Devi, Guru nama kirtan is God nama kirtan. Singing the name of the Guru is singing the name of God. The water off the Guru's feet is the sacred Ganga River. A greater principle than the Guru does not exist. A greater tapasya than the Guru does not exist. Greater gnana than the Guru does not exist." - from the Guru Gita taught by Lord Siva to Mother Parvati Devi.

All divine names are embedded in the True Guru. Thus just the word Guru is itself a divine name mantra.

The True Guru is present in everyone and becomes the conduit through which one receives divine grace.

The divine grace that fills the universe is tapped and made available at the personal level through the True Guru.

And the Guru of all Gurus and deities, Lord Sri Dakshinamurthy Shiva, is Himself physically present in Arunachala seated under a banyan tree. This is unique to Arunachala. Hence Siddhas and rishis are engaged in constant girivalam of this most sacred spiritual focal point.

Sathguru Venkataraman It is because of this physical presence of the Primordial Teacher that Arunachala becomes the wish fulfilling tree of this world that gives you everything without you even asking. It is on a leaf of this banyan tree that Lord Krishna (in baby form) circles the world. The great Ramana Maharishi was able to get darshan of one of the leaves of this sacred tree just once.

Arunachala is the origin point of the universe and it is also the maha pralaya aikya dissolution shakti center of the universe. That which does not exist in Arunachala does not exist anywhere else. Everything in the universe has a representation in Arunachala. In fact, the universe is itself but a piece of Arunachala. This is a Siddha secret that Sathguru Venkataraman taught us often. It is through boundless Arunachala bhakti that one can really understand and realize this Siddha secret. It is bhakti (devotion) that makes the Infinite Divine comprehensible to the finite, rational mind at least to an extent.

One girivalam of Arunachala results in billions of spiritual benefits. It will take yugas to catalogue them all. Arunachala Girivalam is the simplest tapasya and the greatest tapasya.

During every moment of your girivalam, countless divine happenings occur around you. To see such divine secrets in action, one needs divine eyes and it is Lord Sri Kannayira Shiva of sacred Thirukaravasal who can bless you with such divine eyes that can perceive divine happenings.

In the Peralam Shiva temple (near Mayiladuthurai), Perala Maharishi saw millions of divine names in the sanctum of Swayambunath Shiva. Those who do sahasranama archana with 1008 lotuses here will get the grace of their Kula Devata (family deity).

On this day, Swayambunatha Shiva of Peralam appears in Arunachala with all divine name shaktis in His Lotus Feet and does girivalam.

The Siddha Paribhasa mantra chant for this day is as follows:

gaana perumperai kandariyaa maraiyaaney
kalasa painkoozh punalaana pemmaaney
vaana chudar odhi vandhiyakkum vallaala
vaiyathu varavaazhi meiyagath thuyaayo.

Day 4: November 25, 2009
Guru Tatva 4: GURU SEVA (Serving the True Guru)

"The Guru can save one from the wrath of Siva, but there is no protection from the wrath of the Guru. So don't disobey the Guru. Don't go against his word. One has to be very careful in this regard." - from the Guru Gita taught by Lord Siva to Mother Parvati Devi.

To get mukti (salvation) while in physical body is what is truly laudable and the place to get it is Arunachala.

Sathguru Venkataraman used to say that God crafts the True Guru's Form with mukti atoms.

Every step we take in our girivalam is a step towards mukti, said the Sathguru.

There are many Siddha secrets regarding mukti. Here are a few:

In sacred spaces, there are special stones known as mukti kal - salvation stones. These are also found in some steps of certain hill temples. These are stones where a Siddha has deposited some of his tapasya shakti for the benefit of humans who come in contact with these stones.

On deity forms, we see a special ornament known as Muktabharanam. These are actually Siddhas who have attained mukti and who bless people from their position on the deity form. Thus the darshan of this ornament itself can yield spiritual benefits.

There are 360 theertham ponds on the Arunachala Girivalam path. One of these is the Muktikala Theertham. Every mukta (one who has attained mukti) must take a dip in this theertham to attain the perfection of mukti.

Sathguru Venkataraman Every Siddha and Rishi implants the shakti of his tapasya in one of the Arunachala Darshans. Why? How? What is going on here? A Siddha does not have to work for mukti. That has already been achieved by him. So they don't chose their specific tapasya themselves because they don't have to achieve anything for themselves. However, they have the responsibility of working towards the spiritual upliftment of others and so they are given specific tapasyas for the missions they have been asked to undertake. This is a huge seva (selfless service). They need to make sure that their tapasya shakti does not get wasted through anger and similar negative channels. They need to conserve it for doing maximum good to the people. How do they conserve it? With the loving help of Arunachala, of course!

It is Arunachala who takes care of such selfless Siddhas on the one hand and ordinary humans, animals, plants and creatures on the other. This is why Arunachala Girivalam is prescribed as the best spiritual practice for both the exalted Siddha and the least educated human!

The tapasya shakti of these selfless Siddhas can give you the mukti (salvation) state and these shaktis are deposited in Arunachala Darshans and in the stones, rocks and the very soil of Arunachala. This is why we say that not even a little stone should be taken away from Arunachala.

Now, what is a tangible way to get mukti? Serving the True Guru! Mukti is easy to get through Guru Seva.

This day (Nov 25, 2009) is a mukti bhukti Arunachala Girivalam day that can give one the realization that the path of mukti can also be had because of the Guru Seva done by one's ancestors.

The Siddha Paribhasa mantra chant for this day is as follows:

"vithaganaai medhiniyil vilaiyaadum sudarmaaran
venduvadho andhathu poojiyam methavazhi kaattudhalum
vendha vinai pogudhalum melliyadhaai aaguvadhey nichayam."

Day 5: November 26, 2009
Guru Tatva 5: GURU'S FEET

"It is by serving the True Guru's Feet that one realizes the inner meaning of the Veda Maha Vakyas (the Great Sentences of the Vedas). There is no deity, no mother, no father, no relation equal to the True Guru. There is no fundamental reality that is equal to the True Guru. There is no post equal to the True Guru post (the Guru Peetam). Sathguru Of the pitru mukti (ancestor salvation) sacred spaces, Gaya is great. Of the triveni-sangama meeting points of three sacred rivers, Prayag is great. But both Gaya and Prayag are in the True Guru's feet. The True Guru's feet are the crest jewels on the head of the sacred Veda scriptures. The dust of the True Guru's feet can make one cross the uncrossable ocean of samsara (the maya delusion of this world)." - from the Guru Gita taught by Lord Siva to Mother Parvati Devi.

Where do the Siddhas live? In the Lotus Feet of God! That is their eternal home! Nowher else do they desire to live! Nowhere else do they get that eternal bliss that the Lotus Feet of the Lord provide. To be merged with the Lord's Lotus Feet is the one desire of every Siddha.

The True Guru's feet is the sum total of all goodness.

The feet of every Siddha has done Arunachala Girivalam. The footprints of every Siddha are on the Girivalam path. For every age, Arunachala is the Aiswarya Malai - the giver of all prosperity. The one source from which everything can be had.

To learn even a little about the mukti of the True Guru's Feet, one has to set right 64 ancestor generations, 64 past births and 64 future births. Only then can one begin to learn at least a little about the True Guru's feet.

Every exalted pitru ancestral being is given a quota to uplift a given number of people. To uplift even one person may take many centuries. Such secrets of life and of family lineages are revealed to those engaged in serious Aruncahala Girivala Yoga.

Arunachala Girivalam is the way to achieve union of body, mind, intellect, intuition, heart and soul effortlessly. In no other spiritual practice can this union be achieved so easily.

Sathguru Venkataraman The tapasya shakti of numerous Siddhas have been deposited as rays of mukti (salvation) in the numerous Arunachala darshans, in the stones and soil of the Girivalam path, in the 360 sacred theertham ponds, in the temples and in the very air of Arunachala. But is that enough for this Kali Yuga, this age of falsehood? No. The True Guru has to take form, show the way, guide people personally and make them follow the arul vazhi (path of grace). But when he does, the people of the Kali Yuga don't understand what the True Guru stands for and they pester him with their mundane problems and their desires for material wealth. But is that what the Sathguru is here for? No. The Sathguru is here to show people how to workout their karma, to show them ways and means for getting rid of their karma. To be able to do that, the Sathguru has to analyze and rectify a minimum of 3000 past births of a person. This is what is going on in the karma neutralization process. ("Karma neutralization is not a term to be stolen from a Siddha Sathguru. Such mercenaries will surely have to pay the price one day or the other. There is no escape from the karma of stealing and the karma of lying and misleading the public.)

Student: How is karma to be worked out?
Sathguru: By experiencing its effects.
Student: What then is the role of Arunachala Girivalam?
Sathguru: Arunachala Girivalam easily gives one the spiritual maturity to internalize this fact about experiencing karmic effects. Furthermore, Arunachala Girivalam gives one the ways to neutralize karma easily. The physical pain that one experiences during girivalam - the headaches, the body aches, the pains, the thorn pricks - this pain is karma neutralization in action. When dogs chase you on the girivalam path and you are struck with fear, that too is karma neutralization. It is redemption from fear karma and panic karma. Thus everything that happens during Arunachala Girivalam is related to neutralizing your karma.

BUT, one should not try to play games with God. One should not think that one can do Arunachala Girivalam on the hand and continue one's evil ways on the other. Such a human calculation aimed at misusing Arunachala Girivalam will get one the combined disapproval of many Siddhas and rishis and lead to severe curses from them.

Arunachala Girivalam on this day (Nov 26, 2009) will lead to the darshan of the holy feet of many saints and Siddhas.

The Siddha Paribhasa mantra chant for this day is as follows:

"padhapaadham pathipaadham sivapaadham
seerpaadham sempaadhach sivamodha uttamam
budhapaadham nadhipaadham mudhapaadham
sudhapaadham thudhipaadha bavasaaravathuvam."

Day 6: November 27, 2009
Guru Tatva 6: GURU DARSHAN

"One can see the Guru's true form only with eyes of wisdom (gnana-chakshu). Till then, one sees ordinary forms shown by the Guru." Sathguru Venkataraman - from the Guru Gita taught by Lord Siva to Mother Parvati Devi.

[ Arunachala Girivalam and the process of Spiritual Evolution, Realizations, Spirituality, Life itself and True Guru Darshan ... ]

Sathguru Venkataraman used to say often that amongst the True Forms of the True Guru is his akshara (mantra syllable) form as panchakshara - the NaMaSiVaYa forms. Arunachala Girivalam on this day (Nov 27, 2009) will give you a hint of the darshan of the Guru's Form.

The Siddha Paribhasa mantra chant for this day is as follows:

"vidhippoorva vinaikozhi veedengum vilaiyaattu
gadhiyondru kaanbadharko kandadhoru madhivalamey
udhiyondru olirunthaan ongiyaththaan thiruveettil
kudhikaalum vidhikkaalum yadhikkaalaal kaathalamey."

Day 7: November 28, 2009
Guru Tatva 7: GURU'S WORD

"Guru vaakya is karu vaakya - the word of the Guru is the seed from which realization is born. The Guru's word gives the realization that God is One. Once this is understood, retiring to the forest and doing intense penance is not necessary. Even if the Guru's word is understood fully for but one brief moment, the sins of millions and millions of births are wiped out instantaneously and that person is soon led to moksha (salvation) and the state of gnana-samadhi." - from the Guru Gita taught by Lord Siva to Mother Parvati Devi. Sathguru Venkataraman

[ Arunachala Girivalam and the words of the True Guru. Man, his daily sins and his wayward life in this Kali Yuga (the current age). The power of the True Guru's word. Mukti (salvation) and the state of NO MIND. Tyaga (selfless action and service) of the Siddhas and the spiritual upliftment of man... ]

Arunachala Girivalam on this day (Nov 28, 2009) will reveal to you the special word of the True Guru that is meant for you. But one must have the faith to latch on to this word with determination.

The Siddha Paribhasa mantra chant for this day is as follows:

"paasathaal parandhu varum koosukindra vidhivaasam
dhosathaal kaasamadhu paravaasa vasamaagum
veesathey vimalanarul veesattum nisavisaiyaai
kosathaan vaasiyamey naasi siva vaasagamey."

Day 8: November 29, 2009
Guru Tatva 8: GURU'S COMPASSION

"Permanent, eternal happiness is not in the Vedas, shastras, mantras and yantras. Guru's compassion alone is permanent happiness, permanent bliss. This is the eternal gnana maarga (the eternal path of wisdom). There is nothing greater than the Guru's compassion." - from the Guru Gita taught by Lord Siva to Mother Parvati Devi.

[ True Guru's compassion of his own accord. Mukti not just after death, but in physical body too. True Guru does not reveal himself. He lives practically unseen and unknown like Poondi siddha, Shirdi Baba, Podaa Siddha, Kasavanampatti Siddha to name just a few. (In our own times, Sathguru Venkataraman shunned publicity and did his spiritual work silently, unseen and unknown.) Sathguru Venkataraman Yet, out of his compassion, the True Guru works for the upliftment of people everywhere. The one who shows the way to the Mukti of Arunachala is the True Guru. How the prayers of ancestors help our Arunachala worship and girivalam. How our karma plays out in this process. "Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum" - "Salutations to Krishna, the Guru of the Universe." Worshipping one's favorite Siddha, Gnani and doing Arunachala Girivalam. Reaching one's True Guru with the blessings of Lord Krishna. The Primordial Teacher Dakshinamoorthi at the peak of the Arunachala Hill. The importance of Clarity in human life. Lack of clarity in most humans in this Kali Yuga. Why lack of Clarity? Because of (1) wavering, unsteady mind (2) uncontrolled tongue and speech (3) improper desires, thoughts and feelings in mind and body. How to get Clarity? The True Guru is the giver of Clarity! The True Guru's Compassion solves the above mentioned problems. ...]

On this day (Nov 29, 2009), Sri Jajala Maharishi (of the Dwapara Yuga) will do Arunachala Girivalam with an intent to help those suffering from the three problems mentioned above. He will selflessly offer the shakti of his tapasya for the sake of people and will help them in the reformation process. Getting a darshan of white cranes and white storks today (Nov 29, 2009) during your Arunachala Girivalam is an indication of this blessing.

The Siddha Paribhasa mantra chant for this day is as follows:

"kal endrum mann endrum mul endrum medu endrum
kandadhuvum kaanbadhuvum kadhiraali vinaiazhiye
pul endrum pudhar endrum putru endrum podhi endrum
poondadhuvum vanjaara vinaiyaazhi porithaaney

Day 9: November 30, 2009
Guru Tatva 9: GURU MANTRA

"There are 70 million mantras. But the simple two syllabled mantra - Gu ru - is the maha mantra, the great mantra. (sapta koti maha mantraschitta vibramsakaraka: eka eva maha mantro gurur ith akshara dwayam)." - from the Guru Gita taught by Lord Siva to Mother Parvati Devi.

Upadesa of Guru Mantra (receiving the Mantra from the Guru) can happen anytime, anywhere. In Guru upadesa is contained the shakti of all mantras. Sathguru Venkataraman Just the gaze of the True Guru can destroy all evil and lustful thoughts and give much needed Clarity. Total faith is the requirement for getting the True Guru's Gaze.

After the darshan of the True Guru, carrying out his command is what is important. To do this, one needs the Guru Mantra. One should chant it and meditate on it.

The Ego of Wealth, the Ego of Strength, the Ego of Power, the Ego of Knowledge, the Ego of Intelligence, the Ego of Talent and Skill, the Ego of Ability, the Ego of People Support, Fame and Popularity, the Ego of Beauty - if one succumbs to even one of these, one can certainly not develop faith in the True Guru. Furthermore, EGO makes one fritter away one's saved up good karma and thus reduces one to a spiritual pauper.

To say that one is a Guru, the minimum qualification is that he or she must have attained the shakti of the Panchankshara Maha Mantra in its entirety. But a True Guru does not claim to be a Guru. He lives like a surrendered slave of God.

To chant the Guru Mantra and to think of the True Guru's Feet is to be in a state of mukti (salvation). What is meant by the Guru's Feet? Total surrender to the True Guru is what is meant.

In this Kali Yuga (the current age of falsehood), over the past 700 years and more, not a single ancestral soul has had the spiritual maturity to directly get mukti - this is the statement from the world of the celestial ChitraGupta communicated to us by Sathguru Venkataraman.

So what should a human do? The Sathguru said that at least one person in each family should do Arunachala Girivalam whenever he or she can. Why? Because the shakti of Arunachala Girivalam that is done with the blessings of the True Guru according to the Siddha Way can reach 64 generations of one's ancestors and descendants.

The Siddha Paribhasa mantra chant for this day (Nov 30, 2009) is as follows:

"manthiramum maathavamum endhiramum ethavamum
Énathalla echaarum maandharey
vanthiramum vaanagamum punthiramum poosanaiyum
kann thirandhu kaattavalladhu aagumo
chandiranum sooriyanum saatchi migu maavinaiyum
kaattukindra mukkazhiyum naarumey
kundhalathu aana giri arunai vazhi aanadhurai
kooramudham oottu vazhi kaanuveer!

Day 10: December 1, 2009
Guru Tatva 10: GURU'S WISDOM

"Even without any gnana (wisdom), one can attain mukti (salvation) just by the word of the Guru. Guru is sarveswara - the lord of everything. Guru is God. Guru is the true friend, the true relation. Guru is jeeva-shakti. Guru is prana. Guru is Life itself. Apart from the Guru, there is nothing else in this world." - from the Guru Gita taught by Lord Siva to Mother Parvati Devi.

[ Arunachala - the origin of all lights, the Ultimate Light. The three states - waking, dream, deep sleep. States beyond that. Ashtanga Yoga. Turiya Gayatri and Agasthiar. Turiya Gayatri and Karthigai Deepam. ]
On this blessed Karthigai Deepam Day (Dec 1, 2009) one can get Guru Gnana (Guru's Wisdom) Blessings as "Kumbha Muni kudachooda karpachudar." (Kumbha Muni = Agasthiar). On this day, decorate a small pot (kumbham = pot) and place in it some jadhikai, pachai karpooram, cardamom, tulsi leaves, vilvam leaves and some water from sacred rivers such as Ganga and Kaveri. Carry this pot and do Arunachala Girivalam. Chant the Radha Krishna Pure Love Siddha Mantra during your Girivalam on this day. At the completion of your girivalam, consume a little bit of this water as prasadam and pour the rest as an offering at the base of sacred trees and moolika herb plants. Why should we do this? Read below.

Modern Human Society Cursed by Plant and Animal Kingdoms - Siddha Solution

The blessed Arunachala Siddha, Sathguru Venkataraman, often said that modern human society is under serious curses of the plant and animal kingdoms. The Sathguru said that the way out of this curse is the blossoming of Pure Love, as exemplified by Mother Sri Radha - a love that crosses species boundaries. Specifically, human love for plants, trees, animals, birds and creatures is very important especially at this juncture.

On this blessed Karthigai Deepam Day (Dec 1, 2009), the worship procedure (mentioned in the previous paragraph) and the Radha Krishna Divine Love Siddha mantra (given earlier in this article) will show us the way to get out of this curse. Those who cannot be in Arunachala on this day should follow this worship procedure by circling the temple and temple pond in their location. This is the Siddha solution that will get us started on the path of Pure Love.

The Siddha Paribhasa mantra chant for this blessed Karthigai Deepam day (Dec 1, 2009) is as follows:

"kuda deepa thada neeré karpaga chudaraagum kalasudhamé
vadasayi varambodhi idamaasadhavaari thiruperé
thadavaara gurusaadha parajothipudamaana kuravoné

Day 11: December 2, 2009
Guru Tatva 11: GURU'S GRACE

"Eternal is the Guru. Beyond all gunas is the Guru. He who redeems us from all sins is the Guru. Sat Chit Ananda is the Guru's form. The Guru's form is that of everything and of every perfection. The Guru is like the pure spatika crystal. He resides in the soul of everyone. I worship this Jagad-Guru, this Guru of the Universe." - from the Guru Gita taught by Lord Siva to Mother Parvati Devi.

Arunachala Bhakti = RADHA Sivam.
Arunachala Shakti = KRISHNA Sivam.
KRISHNA Sivam is the Divine Device that can shower Guru Bhakti as Bliss (ananda).

Since it is Lord Krishna who comes to us joyfully and gives us His blessings for us to get True Guru Darshan, we have the great statement Krishnam Vandhe Jagad-Gurum. The constant thought of the Guru's Feet can transform one into the Panchakshara Shiva form.

Krishna's Gokula is not of this world and neither are the people of Gokula who were made with atoms of pure love. Lord Krishna created this special Krishna Gokulam in most holy Arunachala. That divine form of Lord Krishna who created this Gokula is the one you see in the Venugopala Krishna shrine in the great Arunachaleswarar Temple. When Krishna's eight queens (ashta mahishis) wanted children, Lord Krishna set an example for us by doing intense tapasya in many sacred Shiva spaces including Arunachala. This is Krishna Venugopala in Arunachala. Worship of Venugopala in Arunachala is worship of Krishna who is Himself worshipping Arunachala - something special for devotees.

Mother Ayur Devi Mother Amrita Lakshmi Mother Sri Sucharita Saraswati, Sri Anuradha Kramana Saraswati Mother Sundara Maha Lakshmi of Arasar Koil

The symbols of PURE LOVE for the entire universe are Mother Radha and the Gopis. Where there is no trace of selfishness, enmity, anger, likes and dislikes, desire, lust, greed and ego, only there can PURE LOVE blossom. The Great Example of such PURE LOVE is found in the Gopis who had plunged deep into the ocean of Pure Krishna Bhakti Love. This Pure Love Jothi Effulgence is tended to by Mother Radha, one of the Five Pancha Maha Devis, to this day in the form of Sri Venugopala Krishna in the Great Arunachala Temple. It is the spiritual glory of Arunachala that makes this possible even in this Kali Yuga age of falsehood.

The form of the Panchakshara (NaMaSiVaYa) is the form of the True Guru. The form of Shiva is the form of the True Guru. Since God is the True Guru and the True Guru is God, Lord Shiva told the Universal Mother Parvati Devi: Gurur Brahma Gurur Vishnu Guru Devo Maheswara: Guru sakshat ParaBrahma tasmai Sri Gurave Namaha. What more does one need than these words of the Lord Himself to understand the glory of the True Guru? So one should develop Guru Bhakti to such an extent that it is with one even in sleep, 24 hours a day. Those who do this will have no time to say, "I'm bored!"

Arunachala's Vishnu Deepam on this blessed Vishnu Deepam Day (Dec 2, 2009) can shower the divine shakti power of Radha Krishna Vishnu Bhakti on us and it can give us the darshan of Pure Love in the form of Prema Jyoti.

The Siddha Paribhasa mantra chant for this blessed Vishnu Deepam day (Dec 2, 2009) is as follows:

"padhitha padhipathu kedhitha vidhimutri
kodhitha vazhi thuyarum podhaadho
vidhitha vidhisutri viyartha vinaipatri
midhitha thalai yaavum theeraadho
kudhitha kulakothu koortha sadhiyutru

Arunachala

The Eternal Karthigai Deepam Jothi

The Karthigai Deepam Jyoti is forever glowing at the peak of the Arunachala Hill. But human eyes don't have the shakti to see this divine light. Hence, the Karthigai Deepam is lit at the peak of the Arunachala Hill so that human eyes can see it on at least 10 of the 365 days in a year.

For the Siddhas, every day is Karthigai Deepam Day and every moment is a Karthigai Deepam moment.

Those who do regular girivalam according to the Siddha Sathguru's way can get the Karthigai Deepam darshan at any time on any day. Sathguru Venkataraman has himself shown the deepam flame at the peak of the Arunachala Hill on days other than the Karthigai Deepam Days to several of his students.

Why does the full moon glow so beautifully? It is only because of the Arunachala Deepa Shakti, Sathguru Venkataraman used to say. To get the darshan of the full moon along with the Arunachala Hill while doing Arunachala Girivalam is indeed one of the great blessings one can get as a human.

All Siva Nataraja Dance Forms

The origin of all Siva Dance Forms is Arunachala, said Sathguru Venkataraman.

Every Arunachala darshan gives you the spiritual benefits of having seen a unique Shiva Nataraja Dance Form, said the Sathguru.

Have you seen God?

If you have done Arunachala GiriValam even once, you can say you have had darshan of God, said Sathguru Venkataraman. This is absolute truth and thus you can say it with complete confidence, said the Sathguru.

Millions of siddhas are ready to support this assertion and praise you for saying so.

Furthermore, you can get the ananda (bliss) that you spoke the one big truth of all time.

One's Arunachala Girivalam Decided Elsewhere

While it appears to each one of us that we are taking the decision to visit Arunachala and do Girivalam, what really happens behind the screens is something else, Sathguru Venkataraman used to say. That one will do Girivalam on a certain day has been decided long ago in the worlds of one's pitrus (exalted ancestral beings), said the Sathguru, for it is one's pitrus who work overtime to involve their descendants in Arunachala Girivalam.

Arunachala Arudra - Archival Footage of our Arunachala Girivalam!

In the celestial Arunachala that encompasses the universe is Arunachala Arudra where everything that happens to everyone in Arunachala is recorded. Millions have done Arunachala Girivalam and the thoughts and actions of each moment of each Girivalam are recorded here like a movie, Sathguru Venkataraman used to say. How much we conformed to the Siddha Way of doing Girivalam can easily be figured out!
