The "Swarna Jothi" Golden Light Abishekam of Lord Shiva performed by Surya Sathguru Venkataraman described Surya Puja as Swarna Jothi (Golden Light) abishekam done by Lord Soorya with His rays. Link to our 1999 article on Surya Puja. This sort of Soorya Pooja is quite rare and happens only in a few temples and that too on just a few days of the year. The Surakkayur sacred spot of Lord Shiva and the Universal Mother is one of these few special places where this takes place. Location There are several places named Surakkayur in Tamil Nadu. So you have to be clear on which one this sacred space is. This Surakkayur sacred space is around 6 km from the famous temple of Mother Garbha Rakshambikai (Karu Kaakkum Nayagi) in ThiruKaruKavoor. These are the routes to Surakkayur Bhujapatheeswara SHIVA temple: Thanjavur - Melattur - Agaramangudi Kumbakonam - Papanasam - ThiruKaruKavur. Thanjavur - Surakkayur - Onbathuveli - ThiruKarugavur Road. Get down at the Surakkayur bridge. You can also take a taxi or auto from Thirukarugavur, Papanasam or Ayyampettai to reach Surakkayur Bhujapatheeswara SHIVA temple.

The Soorya Shakti Sacred Space of Surakkayur The Surya Sakthi sacred power center of Lord Shiva was pointed out by Sathguru Venkataraman many years ago but discovered only recently. (Surakkayur is also spelt as Suraikayur, Surakaayur, Surakkaayoor, Suraikaayoor and so on.) This temple is currently being renovated. There is a lot of renovation work yet to be done. Devotees should get together in a spirit of devotion, humility and surrender to the Lord to help the renovation process. Without devotion, humility and surrender, there is no spiritual life. There is a renovation committee of local people that is already in place in Surakkayur that is working on this renovation project. More details below. The Surya Shakti temple of Keezh Soorya Moolai was discovered in 1999 by students of Sathguru Venkataraman. See pics below. The kumbhabishekam re-consecration ceremony was done in 2003. We hope for something similar here in Surakkayur. We pray to Mother Sri Piravi Marundheeswari and Lord Sri Bujapatheeswara Shiva that the re-consecration ceremony of Their temple will be done in Surakkayur soon.

Lord Sri Bujapatheeswara Shiva worshipped by Lord Surya and Lord Shri Ram Himself. This is a great medicine shakti, healing shakti, curative shakti sacred spot that cures diseases. It is particularly important for eye doctors, eye surgeons and for people with eye problems. This is an Arogya Shakti (HEALTH and WELL-BEING shakti) sacred spot worshipped by the Tamil Grandma Auvaiyar.

Suka Maharishi, the son of the great Vyasa Maharishi, worshipped here and was blessed with the special Krishnamrutham part of the Sun's rays as the nectar of immortality. This is one of the important Aditya Hridayam Maha Mantra Shakti sacred spaces. On Surya puja days here, chant Saint Thirunaavukarasu's ThiruAngaMaalai, Saint GnanaSambandha's ThiruNeetruPadhigam, the "Kanninun SiruThaambu" Alwar songs from the Divya Prabandham, Siva Kavacham, Siva Puranam, Chakshushopanishad mantras, Aditya Hridayam, Surya Hymns, Surya kavacha and Surya Namaskara Mantras. Do a minimum of 72 minutes of concentrated pooja worship here at Surakkayur, said Sathguru Venkataraman. Dwadasa Navaratri - celebrate 12 monthly navaratris here. If something is done such that the rays of Surya don't fall on the Lord anymore, that would be a huge spiritual crime. Much care is therefore needed in the renovation process. The renovation of this sacred temple will bless 64 generations of your family. To get diseases cures, relief from loan problems, salvation from the birth-death cycle, stoppage of bad associations such as relationships with anti social elements and other evil folks amongst other blessings, do what you can to renovate this sacred temple, with an attitude of devotion, humility and surrender to the Lord's Lotus Feet.
