Nava Natha Siddha Secret: How an Expression of Gratitude resulted in Great Spiritual Gain for us
After Lord Shri Ram destroyed the asura demon Ravana and his cohorts, Mother Sita Devi was united with Him.
Their Divinities, along with Lord Lakshman, visited many sacred spots on the southern coast of India such as Rameswaram, Mimisal, Theerthandadanam and others. One of these sacred spots is the little village of Ammanichatram.
Accompanied by Mother Seetha and Lord Lakshman, Lord Ram, the ultimate Yogi, would do padayatra - pilgrimage by foot, an extremely powerful spiritual practice. When they reached this sacred space of Ammanichatram, Mother Sita's divine will resolved that this was the sacred space destined for the expression of her gratitude and benefaction of humankind.
As the divine brothers walked in the hot sun, Mother Seeta decided that She would Herself hold an umbrella over Them and thus demonstrate how this seva should be done. http://www.Agasthiar.Org/a/vpnov2010.htm
With the help of the locals, she collected leaves from 100 sacred plants and trees such as lotus, lily, banyan, peepul, purasu leaves.
Using these, She constructed big umbrellas and held them over Rama and Lakshmana
in the presence of great lady rishis such as Gargi and Maitreyi.
Thus, by Her own personal example, She showed us how to do this seva and gave it to us a powerful worship procedure that can bless us in many ways.
Chatrotsava - the divine umbrella festival - was thus first instituted here and given to humankind for our benefit.
It is only fitting that this worship procedure be resumed in this sacred space of Ammanichatram in honor of Mother Sita who blessed us with it.
"Ammani" - Most Respected Lady - said Lord Hanuman!
One day, as Mother Sita walked behind Rama and Lakshmana holding the large umbrella that She had herself made, Lord Hanuman was observing the proceedings with respect as usual.
But the sheer beauty of the seva and Mother Sita's tender divine heart overwhelmed Him and out of bhakti ecstasy, He cried out to Her: "Ammani!" This word means "most respected lady." The locals joined in and there were joyful shouts of "Ammani" addressed at the Lotus Feet of Mother Sita.
This soulful expression of Lord Hanuman and many human hearts overwhelmed Mother Sita in turn. http://www.Agasthiar.Org/a/vpnov2010.htm
Lord Rama's Words
It was time for Lord Shri Ram to bring this leela (divine play) to the blissful ananda state. The blessed Lord said: "This place where Ammani Sita did chatra seva will be known as Ammanichatram in Her honor and in honor of Her grateful seva. By following Her example of chatra seva, humans will receive great blessings. Let them do it in fond remembrance of Her giving a celestial worship procedure of the Devas to humans of terrestrial earth."
Thus the history of this sacred space goes back all the way to the Treta Yuga of Lord Shri Ram Himself.
It is the place where the precious chatra seva worship procedure of the Devas was given by the the Divine Mother Herself to us humans.
The command of Lord Shri Ram about "chatra seva" was issued not just to the locals of Ammanichatram. It was addressed to humankind as a whole and must be heeded by one and all as a precious duty.
This beautiful divine episode that you read above is just one of the "Irudigal Ramayana" secrets of the Nava Natha Siddhas (concerning this sacred space of Ammanichatram) that was given to us by Sathguru Venkataraman.
Thank your pitru ancestral beings, for it is because of their good deeds that you are able to learn this Siddha secret.
